SRFC TOPSoccer Program
The TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) was established in 1991 with the goal of providing young athletes with disabilities a supportive environment to learn, develop, and engage in physical activity through the game of soccer.
The SRFC’s TOPSoccer program's mission is “to provide a safe, inclusive, fun soccer environment where children of all abilities can experience the joy of soccer, build confidence, fitness, and community.” Our program is designed for special needs children 17 years and younger.
Benefits for Participants
SOCIAL SKILLS – Players interact with their volunteer Buddy and other athletes in a fun, group setting and learn proper social behaviors.
TEAMWORK – Players build trust among peers and rely on them through soccer activities and games.
PERSEVERANCE – Players might encounter difficulties with activities, but they will be encouraged to keep trying and overcome challenges.
CONFIDENCE – Players will achieve success on the field that carries over to their lives off the field in so many ways!
Volunteer Buddies
Volunteer buddies are always needed!
Each participant is assigned a volunteer ‘Buddy’ who is neurotypical. This Buddy works with their player individually and makes sure they are safe, engaged, supported, and having fun.
Our program strives for 1 volunteer buddy per participant.
Buddies are preferred to be 13 years or older. (Younger volunteers may be allowed with a parent volunteer.)
Service Hours can be collected during the sessions.
Volunteers 18 years and older will need to complete a background check and SafeSport Training.
Spring 2026 Buddy training will be Monday, March 16th from 6:00-7:00PM in the meeting room. (I don’t know the official name of the room.)
* A guardian must accompany the participant to all sessions. Guardian participation as a registered volunteer in activities on the field is encouraged but not required.

Player Expectations: While we aim for an inclusive and fun environment, we expect players to be ready, willing, and able to train. The primary focus is on developing age-appropriate skills and overall long-term development in a fun yet focused setting. Players should genuinely want to learn how to train. We reserve the right to remove players from sessions or the program if their participation becomes a distraction or detriment to others' experiences.
